Hi, This is Kathy at the Village Shops at Down A Country Road near Cashton, WI. We have closed our retail gift shop business as of Oct 28, 2023. You have reached our website because we have chosen to leave it up until we have figured out the next step. At this time I am taking some time to discern those next steps after closing our 30 year retail business and "retiring". I am currently not taking orders for any merchandise, questions about the Amish or their businesses or any other "business" activity. Please respect the fact that I need some down time to transition into my new reality. My husband had a massive heart attack and quadruple bypass surgery a few months ago and we are now also in the process of cardiac rehab, dr. appts. and such. Having said all of the above, I likely will not check this email until some later time in the spring or summer. If you have AN URGENT REASON TO CONTACT ME, PLEASE CALL ME AT 608-654-5318. Thank you for understanding. Kathy
Self-guided tours are available for sale at the gift shops Monday thru Saturday, May thru October. It includes a copy of Kathy's book "Down A Country Road with the Amish" and a map and guide as to where you may take your own tour of the Amish community. The cost of this tour is $25.00. You do not need to call ahead, you can simply pick up the book and tour at the gift shops and be on your way to experience a day in Amish country. No tours of Amish country on Sundays.
Experience Amish Country near Cashton, Wisconsin. It is Wisconsin's largest Amish community. A Guide will ride with you in your vehicle for approximately two hours as you visit the Amish community. You will learn all of the history, traditions and customs of the Amish through the eyes of an experienced tour guide (most likely Kathy, with over 26 years of experience). Enjoy hearing about the customs of courtship and marriage, church services, funeral practices and much more. Kathy will share many heart warming stories of experiences she has had amongst her Amish friends and neighbors.
You will have the chance to meet Amish families as we stop at their farm yards to take a look at the goods they may have for sale. We'll most likely stop at a Bakery or Candy Shop, possibly a quilt shop or wood working shop and who knows what else. Your Wisconsin Amish tour will begin and conclude at our gift shops.
During the 2021 season, Kathy has decided that due to the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic she will not be doing individual family car tours. See above for doing your own self guided tour. If you are bringing a Bus group, please call 608-654-5318 for reservation and pricing for Kathy to do a step on guided tour of Amish Country.

Your guide will share the rich history of the Amish, dating back to the Anabaptist movement of the fifteen hundreds. You will learn how this heritage has survived many, many generations and thrives today in the midst of the modern world. Satisfy your curiosity as you learn the many traditions and customs of the Amish, including why they dress the way they do, their courtship and marriage practices, what it's like to attend Amish church services in the home and what an Amish funeral is like.
